Whenever you talk to leaders, do find that they are “Thinkers” or “Feelers”? The answer is: “They are Passionate. They are Feelers. They are On-Purpose. They are on a mission.”
What’s the worst thing to do to a person that’s a Feeler?
“Hey, Robert. Can I get 5 minutes of your time, I want to run something by you.”
“HELL NO!.” (I don’t even want you pulling me into that “ICKY” stuff!)
“Hey, Robert. I was thinking about overthinking and then thinking some stuff. And while I was thinking, I was wondering if I could get some minutes of your time to tell you what I was thinking and to find out what you’re thinking.”
“NOOOOOOOOO!”
It was like, I should get one of those crosses like in “The Exorcist” that says “Over-Thinker” on it, and just hold it out. “AWAY … AWAY!” Was that graphic enough?
For most of you who have reached out to me, your phrase to me all the time is that it’s always a “quick question.” (I have never heard anyone, “Hey, can I ask you a long question?”)
“Hey, do you have a couple of minutes. I just got a quick question.”
“Okay.” (I love saying that back to people on audio. That’s why Facebook (Messenger) said that you only need a minute. It’s because that’s it that’s quick.) “So how could I help you? What’s your quick question?”
And they go, “I did this, this, this, and this. What do you … THINK?” And they know I don’t want to do that. I’d rather feel.
“Feelers” might send me a message, and say “Robert I hope you’re feeling better. I’m planning on doing this. What do you feel about that?”
“What do I feel about that? Isn’t that interesting?”
So for those of you that THINK too much, you’ve got to first be aware of it. Once you’re aware of it, I need you to be doing stuff on a day-to-day basis. It can last less than 3 minutes; it can take a few seconds. You have got to figure out the trigger ― whether it’s an audio, video clip, or something that you might have seen. I want you to reach back into your emotional vault, your emotional file, and find what triggers “great feelings” for you. I need you to start mastering the art of Feeling instead of Thinking. For many of you, your “go-to” is thinking.
It SHOULD be, “What can I do to make this person FEEL better?”
